Join the Celebration!

New church, community focus
On May 31st, 2009, First and Ascension Lutheran Churches (ELCA) will be uniting as one congregation: Spirit of Christ Community Lutheran Church. Both congregations have strong ties to the Saint Louis Park community with long-term commitments to service. This new congregation, rooted in the Sorensen neighborhood at 5801 Minnnetonka Blvd, will endeavor to be a vital community partner on issues of justice and care for the under served. Look for the neighborhood food drive in July!

The Shack Book Event at Park Tavern: 6/17, 6/24, 7-9PM
Curious about the runaway bestselling book The Shack? Bring a friend not connected to our community but perhaps interested in Jesus and join us as we take two Wednesdays to explore what made this book so controversial. You won’t need to have read the book to be part of the conversation! Enjoy meeting people from all our ELCA congregations here in the Park in June. Need more info: connect@sparkchurches.org

New Sermon Series: Acts of Faith

Easter has come; but what does the news of Jesus' ongoing presence in the world mean for us as a community?

Join us as we explore stories of faith from many different voices. We'll also wrestle with the word "theology." One definition of theology is "faith seeking understanding;" we'll wonder into a living understanding of acts of faith. God has made acts of faith for us in Jesus; how then shall we live for the sake of our neighbors?

1500 pounds of food!

As we wrapped up our final shared Lenten worship experience, the people of Wooddale, Ascension, Reformation and First built an altar out of food. We are a group of churches who deeply care about the well being of our community. 1500 pounds of food was donated to STEP that night.
We welcome you to join us in our journey of Holy Week!

Following Jesus is a journey. As we prepare to join the crowds that welcomed him in Jerusalem, we also join those who walked with him in what the Christian church has called Holy Week. Join us as we journey with Jesus to the cross and finally the promise of the empty tomb.

Dr. Karoline Lewis to speak

We welcome Dr. Karoline Lewis this next Sunday at 11AM for our Adult Education hour. Don't miss this great morning with her!

A native Californian and a lifelong Lutheran from a family full of pastors (including both her parents), Lewis first came to Luther Seminary after her collegiate focus on violin performance gave way to an interest in Christian education. She quickly found a passion for the original Greek writings of the New Testament—a passion similar to her love for musical compositions. Lewis likewise finds parallels between musical and scriptural interpretation.

"A musical performance is a unique convergence of things, and in many ways that's what a sermon is," she says. "It's just a unique convergence of text and preacher and congregation and context and God and Spirit—sort of a reincarnation of God's living word."
